about

This is my favorite home-made album to date. I started making this album during an emotional, transitional period in my life. We just had our first kid and the second kid was on the way. We sold our little house in Plano. The house had been mine (and my cats) since before I'd even met Kristi so I had some history there. My eldest cat Fiona was sick. I knew she didn't have much time left. We just bought a new, and bigger house in Allen. This may seem cheesy, but I always told Fiona that "someday you'll live in a big house. I promise." We started the move and had our first night there, sleeping in mattresses on the floor. I knew Fiona was VERY sick. She threw up in our bed in the night. She was frail. I gently moved her onto the couch downstairs. Early the next morning she died.
It was very hard on me. The first day in our new house was supposed to be a happy one. But, it was tragic and depressing.
Shortly after I began work on this album. I wanted it to be as upbeat and happy as possible. For the most part it is. But, there are some moments of reflection on here that are sad.
Track #5: Tall Tales of Fiona is one that most people probably don't get. That's OK. Basically it's based on having recurring dreams of someone who is gone. When someone dies you still dream about them, but you may not remember they are dead in your dream. Sometimes you even come to the realization that they are dead while you are dreaming. I did have lots of strange dreams about Fiona and this song is supposed to be in that dream world. Someone (or some creature) is singing to me and saying "tell me about the cat you love the most". So I am singing back to that creature and telling it about Fiona. So... yes. It is weird. :)
