This may be my favorite album of mine. I began work on this album right after moving into a new house. My beloved cat Fiona was sick and died on the very first night in the house. So, that weighed heavy on me for a long while and there are several references to Fiona on the album. I spent about a year working on this one and my son Jacob was born during that time as well. So there was a lot of change going on in our household.
I wanted this album to be as upbeat and happy as possible. For the most part it is. But, there are some moments of reflection on here that are sad.
Track #5: Tall Tales of Fiona is one that most people probably don't get. That's OK. Basically it's based on having recurring dreams of someone who is gone. When someone dies you still dream about them, but you may not remember they are dead in your dream. Sometimes you even come to the realization that they are dead while you are dreaming. I did have lots of strange dreams about Fiona and this song is supposed to be in that dream world. Someone (or some creature) is singing to me and saying "tell me about the cat you love the most". So I am singing back to that creature and telling it about Fiona. So... yes. It is weird.
